Alternative Universe

The collection is inspired from Surrealism, where an alternative universe is created that provokes a sense of escape on the stresses of everyday life.

This alternative universe hopes to allow the audience to place themselves outside the stresses and forces of everyday life by creating an aura of free thought, where thought provoking questions such as questions based on preconceived meanings of things and matters of our lives are placed into context. I used pastel and muted colors, which coupled with soft silk fabrics to portray the notion of dreams that help bridge the gap between reality and a dream-like environment.

A piece of clothing is shown to embody greater meaning, whereby a piece of garment is removed from its singular meaning, the garments now have the power to stir emotions and provoke questions and perspectives as to how fashion, clothing, and the world interacts. The collection promotes the notion of continuity and organic form that comes from surrealism through the inspiration of water and fluid forms. The use of multi-layers and crafted seams empowers the wearer by instilling a sense of journey through the emotional and sensual experience of wearing the garment, thus creating a sense of floating and lightness in space. The pieces of garments can be interpreted in many ways from different perspectives, and will provide a unique and visceral experience for each user, this can be seen from interplay of fabric, free formed shapes and lightness of the pieces.

This natural interaction that occurs through the limitless viewpoints and meaning of what an alternative universe stands for creates a sense of freedom and stirs creative interpretation amongst its users and viewers, elevating the human mind to remove pre-conceived associations of the world. The collection aims to blur the meaning of reality and dream of everyday life, by providing an escape for wearers and viewers.
